Engagement pictures are a way to celebrate you and ya boo thing in this sweet season leading up to your wedding day. Not only are they a good way to celebrate, but they’re also useful for your wedding website and to use on save the dates or wedding invitations.
Because engagement photos have such a great use, you want to make sure your outfits reflect both of your personalities well. Here are 5 tips on what to wear to help you pick out an engagement session outfit that you’ll love both now and forever!

1. Think about your location

“Location, Location, Location!”

Think about where you’re going to be shooting, and try to match the vibe of the scenery around you. For instance, it would be a little odd for you to wear shorts, a t-shirt, and some hiking boots when shooting downtown or in a large city. Vice versa, you’d probably not want to wear a black dress and stilettos in the mountains. Just try to match the vibes of your surrounding, ya feel?

2. Wear what you’re comfortable in

You know that *super cute* dress that’s sitting in the back of the closet because it makes you itch every five seconds? Probably not something you want to wear to your session.
You want to be comfortable and to wear clothes that accentuate the parts of your body that you like best. You also want the ability to MOVE with ease. (So make sure you wear clothes that won’t tear when your movin’ and groovin’)
In most cases you will not be standing still or posed for any of your photos. A good photographer will capture your reactions and your movement. Keep that in mind when choosing an outfit.

3. Keep in mind the season

I know this is mostly common sense, but check the weather and the temperature for your shoot location. The temperature may be hotter or cooler than you expected-which brings up a good point. Wear Layers!
Layers are a great way to give you multiple looks. Not only is that cute sweater/denim jacket/oversized flannel going to add to your look, but can be used as a cute prop later on in the session.

4. Don’t Match!

Matching is OUT, friend. If you’re thinking white t-shirt and jeans for you both, ditch that idea quick! Try to stick with neutral colors that coordinate. Now some people think “washed out” colors when I say neutral-that’s not what I mean.  I absolutely love color! Try to stay away from bright highlighter tones-they aren’t flattering to skin tones, and don’t photograph well.

Patterns are also a great thing to add some depth in your outfit. More than one pattern can sometimes clash depending on the design, so keep that in mind when searching through your wardrobes.

p.s. try and stay away from logos on clothing- patagonia, ralph lauren, gucci, etc. (sometimes icons like that can take away from your pictures)

5. Accessorize

Accessories are a super simple way of changing up your outfit with ease. Nothing adds an instant “wow” factor than a wide brimmed hat or a cool watch. Sunglasses, jewelry, or a cute hair scarf create an extra layer of texture and interest to your  fit.

Alright fam, time to up level that outfit game and go OWN your engagement session. Just remember to have fun with your person and to be yourself!
